JSAT Wins Leadership Award at ISCe2006
JSAT Corporation ("JSAT"; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Kiyoshi Isozaki) is pleased to announce its receipt of a Leadership Award at the International Satellite Communications Conference & Expo ("ISCe 2006"). The conference was held from June 13through June 15, 2006 (local time) in San Diego, California. ISCe 2006, held this year for the fifth time, is the largest satellite communications convention in the U.S. West Coast region. The Leadership Award is presented to corporations that have demonstrated leadership in their business fields, acting as a driving force behind industry advancement. JSAT is the first Asian satellite operator to win the award. The following achievements were highly commended as reasons for JSAT's selection:

  • JSAT launched Japan's first commercial Ku-band service in 1989, subsequently starting up a DTH business with SKY PerfecTV !. As a result of these accomplishments it became the largest satellite communications operator in Asia in terms of sales and fleet size.
  • In 2001 JSAT established Horizons Satellite LLC jointly with PanAmSat Corporation ("PAS") of the U.S. and launched the Horizons-1 communications satellite, making a success of the industry's first equal partnership between competing companies.
  • JSAT was able to establish a presence in the U.S. market as a result of the success of the Horizons-1 project.

Toru Mizoguchi, General Manager of JSAT's Global Business Development Division, attended the awards ceremony and remarked, "It is a great honor for JSAT that our joint venture with PAS has achieved recognition as a new form of partnership. We intend to further expand our global operations in future." JSAT and PAS have reached an agreement to continue collaboration and running satellite communications operations in North America. In 2007 the companies will launch the Horizons-2 satellite into orbit at 74 West longitude over New York.

Having won this award, JSAT will continue to expand its global operations and reinforce the infrastructure of its satellite network. We ask for your continued support in our endeavors.
